Treatment and medication administration (eMAR)

Status: Partially implemented

The physician prescribes treatment in the inpatient chart: drug, dose, route and schedule. The nurse sees the ward plan for the day and marks each dose as administered, omitted or refused; an administered dose is deducted from ward stock and double marking is refused. The 24-hour need is sent to the pharmacy as a draft requisition. At prescribing time, the patient's allergies are compared with the drug and require confirmation.

What is missing today

  • There is no automatic check of drug interactions or maximum doses; allergies are compared textually with the drug name.
